Family & Children

Family life can be deeply rewarding—and also complicated, exhausting, and painful. When a child is struggling, the entire family can feel the impact. Parents may find themselves questioning what to do, repeating the same conflicts, or worrying that they are getting it wrong.

Counseling provides a supportive place to slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and find a healthier way forward together.

My Approach

I believe behavior tells us something, but it does not tell us the whole story. Children and parents do best when they feel understood—not judged or blamed.

My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and practical. Together, we look beyond the immediate problem to understand the emotions, experiences, relationships, and patterns influencing it. I help families strengthen connection while also developing clear, realistic strategies they can use at home.

The goal is not a perfect family. It is a family that understands one another better, repairs after difficult moments, and feels more equipped to face challenges together.

Areas I Help With:

  • Parent-child conflict and communication
  • Emotional or behavioral concerns
  • Anxiety, sadness, anger, and emotional overwhelm
  • Family transitions, separation, and changing roles
  • Grief, loss, and difficult life experiences
  • Trauma and attachment-related concerns
  • Parenting stress and caregiver burnout
  • School, peer, and social difficulties
  • Building confidence, coping skills, and emotional regulation
  • Helping parents respond to the need beneath a child’s behavior

Families

Families often come to counseling feeling stuck in patterns that no longer work. Conversations become arguments, everyone feels misunderstood, and even loving parents can feel unsure about what their child needs.

Family counseling creates space for each person’s experience to be heard. We work to identify recurring patterns, improve communication, rebuild trust, and develop healthier ways of responding to one another. I help families hold both compassion and accountability—understanding how a problem developed while making practical changes for the future.

Children

Children do not always have the words to explain what they are carrying. Their feelings may appear through worry, anger, withdrawal, sleep difficulties, school problems, challenging behavior, or changes in relationships.

I meet children with warmth, curiosity, and respect. Counseling is tailored to the child’s age, personality, and needs and may include conversation, creative activities, skill-building, and parent involvement. Children can learn to identify and express their feelings, develop coping strategies, strengthen confidence, and experience a safe relationship with an adult who seeks to understand the whole child.

Parents and caregivers are important partners in this process. When appropriate, I offer support and practical guidance so that progress made in counseling can continue at home.

A Hopeful Way Forward

You do not have to have everything figured out before reaching out. Counseling can be a place to begin understanding what your family needs and taking the next step toward greater connection, stability, and hope.
